Lucy Humphris

Lucy Humphris is a professional trumpet player and frequent musical collaborator with The Longest Johns, as well as a community moderator. She has described herself as "an ever-curious musician who has a joy of performing, collaborating within all genres, arranging, singing... doing what music is best at: communicating."

Lucy graduated with First Class Honors from the Royal Academy of Music and has earned several musical accolades, including being one of the youngest winners of the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra Candide Award, and being named one of Classic FM's Rising Stars of 2023. She has collaborated with several contemporary classical artists and composers, including Ensemble Musikfabrik, the Ligeti Quartet, and Bethan Morgan-Williams, and she released her debut album Obscurus with pianist Harry Rylance in March 2023.

Outside the classical world, she is one half of folk duo The Brammel Kites, has performed with Lady Maisery and Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith on their annual winter show Awake Arise, and most recently played on several tracks on indie rock band The Last Dinner Party's debut album Prelude to Ecstasy, released February 2024. She is also one half of Chilliteracy (the other half being Sam Darley), a biweekly Twitch stream featuring live readings of classic (and sometimes obscure) novels and short stories.

With the Johns, Lucy has played trumpet on Moby Duck, Land Shanties, and We Shall Sail Together, and is co-creator of the chiptunes for Commodore 1864. She has also recorded guide tracks for recent community projects and done significant written work for the band, transcribing the arrangements for all the songbooks and creating the choral arrangement for Drop the Hammer.
