Made of Ale Sessions is an 8-track live EP announced 20 Sep 2022, with digital release on 15 October. It features new versions of some of the band's most popular songs, recorded live at The Forge in Bristol.
The title references the storied Maida Vale Studios in London, the BBC's former base for live music broadcasts and recordings. For much of the 20th century, radio stations in the UK were subject to "needle time" restrictions limiting how much programming time could be allotted to commercially recorded music; to circumvent these rules, the BBC hired musicians to record music exclusively for broadcast. From the 1960s on, they also began featuring new and current popular artists, including such famous names as David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix. Several artists who participated in these sessions or otherwise recorded at the studios later published the results commercially, often under the title Maida Vale Sessions: hence the pun in the title.
