Labyrinth Blues

From The Longest Song Wiki

A Longest Johns Original, written by Andy Yates and released as the album opener on Ends of the Earth on 1 May 2026.

Factoids

In Greek mythology, the Labyrinth was a maze-like structure built for King Minos of Crete to contain the Minotaur, a monstrous half-man, half bull. King Minos required regular human sacrifices be made to the monster until it was finally slain by the hero Theseus.[1]

Lyrics

Very kindly provided by the band.

Oh father, oh father, what have you done?
What have you hidden away from the sun?
Oh father, oh father, in the dungeon below
The longer it sleeps, the larger it grows

{Chorus}
Solve the maze and cut the rope
Unlock the box and tie down the goat
Put down your plowshares and pick up your swords
We must slay the beast we must find the cause

There's a messenger here who brings news from the gods
They say that the city is rotten and lost
They say that the well can be drawn from once more
If the kings and the queens will open up their doors

{Chorus}

Oh mother, oh mother, can you hear that sound?
It sounds like the millstone as it turns around
Oh mother, oh mother, it bellows deep below
We must break the cycle to bring us back home

{Chorus}
